amyhi 's review for:
Purple Hibiscus
by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Considering as an alternate for The Poisonwood Bible in AP Lit.
Update:
My AP Lit class chose to read this book instead of the other title. They LOVED it. Great hero's journey, use of finding one's voice; paired well with How to Read Literature Like a Professor; author is the speaker in the TedTalk "Danger of a Single Story" and in Beyonce's "Flawless" song.
This book gets better each time I read and talk about it.
5/17/20 Update
I'm teaching both The Purple Hibiscus and The Poisonwood Bible simultaneously. (Students had a choice.) I am blown away by the connections between these two books!
