This is a book designed for people who don't really like to read, full of constant excitement and cliffhangers but only enough character work to move the story forward.
Five Realtors are in competition to sell a $50M house that will yield a $1M commission. All five have a Big Reason for wanting the money and are varying degrees of desperate. On the night of the brokers' open party, a dead body is found floating in the pool and everyone is suspect.
There are multiple POVs and the timeline veers back and forth. The chapters are short and often end with revelations that are not shared with the reader until much later, encouraging further reading. I was impressed by the structure of the book, but the characterizations were shallow, with just enough detail to serve the plot. Consequently, I didn't care about any of the characters, and if it had ended with all of them floating dead in the pool, I wouldn't have minded.
It doesn't end like that though.
I'm pretty sure this ended up on my kindle through the first reads program. It's not really the kind of mystery I prefer, but it's perfectly adequate in terms of mystery and struck me as being well-crafted.
