I loved this book, but it absolutely fucking destroyed me. As soon as the flashback started, I was completely on edge and in turmoil, waiting for whatever tragedy separated them. And then finding out what actually happened, actually made it so much fucking worse. I gave this five stars because I loved how real it was, and how much it made me feel, but so much of that emotion was utter heartbreak. If you are an emotional, empathetic reader, make sure you’re in a good headspace before you read this one. This was not the lighthearted romance that I thought it would be, even though the book description does say it’s a hard fought HEA. I guess I didn’t believe it 😅

I really wish there had been a little less flashback so that we could have a little more of them together at the end. I felt like the wrap up was way too fast compared to the amount of buildup in the story. But I also think that getting that full background story and in between was well written and very important so maybe it just needed to be another 50 to 100 pages longer? Lol.
