Bračni portret by Maggie O'Farrell

dark emotional tense

4.0

Fascinating premise of 16th century Italian courts, vivid descriptions of events and courts, interesting and fleshed out characters, but the tone and the story are quite dark so it's might not be everyone's cup of tea. Lucrezia's story is depressing and it shows the position of women in that age in an honest and brutal way. The writer never lets you forget that this is a child all of this is happening to, her naivety, sense of entrapment and loss are always present in the book, and you can't help but root for her, sometimes even in spite of her actions.
