The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros
5.0
Spice: 1/5
Plot: 5/5
Rebecca Yarros ladies and gentlemen. Rebecca freaking Yarros. She does the damn thing, every single fucking time.
I don’t have a single complaint about this book. Not even one. It was literally perfection. Rebecca just has this way of dropping Easter eggs and bread crumbs so that you think you’re following the trail and then wham, you’re flat on your ass sobbing (yes, actual literal tears) because you didn’t actually see anything coming. You thought you saw things, but you didn’t, because you were looking in the opposite fucking direction. Every. Damn. Time. God, I love her.
How the hell do I even summarize this without giving anything away… It’s a contemporary romance but it’s also a historical love story. I don’t say historical romance, because it’s so much more than that. It’s a LOVE story, and yes there’s a difference. So you get the contemporary story mixed with a completely separate but intertwined plot set in 1940’s WW2 Britain, and it gives ALL the Pearl Harbor vibes. If you loved that movie, you will devour this book. I’m not gunna say anything else, because I want you guys to go in blind, but daaaamn.
Honestly y’all, it was such a trip. I just adore the way Rebecca writes and the depth with which she connects you as a reader to her characters. I don’t know how she does it, but it’s incredible. If you find yourself in need an epic love story, that is beautifully written and will gut you and is emotionally devastating but also healing… this is it. Absolutely, 100% would recommend.
