I read through some reviews prior to reading to get some concept of what other readers thought. A lot of reviews found the book predictable. Although, I agree I feel this story needed to be told.
I figured out the twist of the story about 50% in, but Johnson is a gifted author, and her writing is complex. This book shines a light on some powerful topics based on real events taking place. The story is though-provoking and by the end you will be fully wrapped up in the story between Ruby and Eleanor. The book was moving and compelling and I could not put it down.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I am not disappointed and will be reading Yellow Wife ASAP!
