I did like this. Not the most amazing, but definitely worth the read. I did get some good suspense, great surprises, and I liked the style of writing when things were being narrated by Eddie really fun to read. He was always really brutally honest and never bothered to hide anything with what he was narrating, which I really enjoyed. I felt like I was in the place with them. The place they were in wasn't romanticized, either. Told realistically how it was, with all its flaws, and they still missed it. That's the first thing.Second, since I'm a sucker for characters, I will make comments on them. I loved the characters. They were all so realistic, with their perfections and their flaws, everything. Their dynamics between each other were really good, too. I especially loved Bloch, and I loved that paragraph that talked about how she struggled with emotions, despite being able to show affection to her family when she was young, and her issues with feelings when they threaten to overwhelm her. I wish that was elaborated on more, and I wish something like that would be done with some of the other characters. I did also love the relationship between Lomax and his wife, as well as his inner conflicts. Those were great additions with the emotion, but I wish his grief was described a little more rather than mostly tears, feeling tired, all that.

There were some things that made it get a little further from being at four or more stars, though. First of all, the book had a few spelling/grammar mistakes, so that was a struggle for me (as someone who would always read to better their grammar and spelling).
Second, ending felt slightly rushed, and the stuff outside the case (the governor's assassination, them targeting Francis Edwards, the exact purpose of the White Camellia) made no sense to me, so I with they'd also elaborated on that more, but maybe that was just a me problem lol.
Overall, though, it was a good one. I enjoyed reading it, and I had my good memories with reading it and all. Would definitely read again.
