“If you aim to be something you are not, you will always fail. Aim to be you. Aim to look and act and think like you. Aim to be the truest version of you. Embrace that you-ness. Endorse it. Love it. Work hard at it. And don't give a second thought when people mock it or ridicule it. Most gossip is envy in disguise.”
― Matt Haig, The Midnight Library
I loved this book so much. Nora, is not happy with her life. everything seems to be going wrong, she doesn't feel loved and feels as if the world would be better off without her. She she decides to end her life.
But instead to dying she ends up in the Midnight Library, a library of books of her life in an infinite number of timelines. As she reads through her "book of regrets" she can chose to go back and undo any one of those lives and see where it takes her, is she would be happier there than her root life, and if she's not, she'll come back to the midnight library and start over.
Nora goes through many different lives that she thinks would have made her happy, realizing, they is something missing or wrong about all of them.
I loved how Matt Haig was able to show how a completely broken person could come back from what she thinks is a painless life, and learn to love herself and love her life just the way it is. I loved watching Nora start to love herself again and realize that even though she had regrets, she was meant to be exactly where she was all alone because she was important and she did mean something.
everyone is important and means something to someone. Like the book says "embarrass your you-ness" always be yourself because yourself is beautiful.
