A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair

1.0

The entire book was very clearly just a means to get to the smut. I swear they were having sex at the most random times too, it was very odd. If fighting with your partner makes you unfathomably horny everytime, you probably need therapy. Respectfully.

It was also very obviously a Wattpad book once upon a time, It definitely felt like it was written in instalments with no real plan for the ending. Which is fine I guess, but a lesson to myself to check if something started on Wattpad before reading it…

The consent throughout this book was very dubious. There was a whole plot line where this bad guy kisses her without permission and it’s all very terrible and bad (as it should be), but then the love interest does the exact same thing and it’s supposed to be hot? Like it’s okay just because he’s the love interest? Very off-putting. The whole relationship was very possessive and toxic, there was a HUGE power imbalance that was very much abused and totally brushed off. But of course it’s fine, because he’s 6’5 and in love with her (barf).

There were hella plot holes, which I never usually notice or care about, but my GOD so many things just straight up didn’t make sense or were so poorly explained away when they became a problem.

Also, why did she describe every dress in extreme detail but they were all exactly the same in different colours?

Everything about this book was just a bit of a shit show. The underworld setting was pretty decent, but that’s about it. I was excited for it all to be over. Thank goodness it is.
