Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness

5.0

My wife told me to read these books quite a while ago; regrettably, I did not listen at the time, and instead waited until they cast two of my favorite up-and-coming actors in the film adaptation to decide they were required reading. How I wish I had listened, and I would have been able to sing the praise of Chaos Walking earlier. Each chapter is an entirely engaging, unique, unpredictable, and emotionally engrossing experience quite unlike anything I've ever experienced. The concluding chapter, Monsters of Men, does not disappoint, offering up a morally challenging, dark and twisty finale that you'll never see coming, but that's just as vitally human and personally resonant as its predecessors. I cannot recommend all three of these books highly enough, and though I have only read these and A Monster Calls, I can easily name Patrick Ness as one of my all-time favorite authors.
