The Downstairs Girl
by Stacey Lee
This was fine. But it was clearly a JLG pick. It reads safe and kinda young. And it’s boring until things start actually happening around page 275. This will speak to younger YA readers and appease parents who want an almost completely clean read for their kids (minus the fact that it’s low-key mentioned that “no account billy” is a loan shark that causally runs his gambling racket and pawn shop from a whore house). The pretty cover will certainly draw interest from readers who are interested in HistFic.
