While the art is incredible, I don’t think I particularly enjoyed how over-dramatic this was. I understand that manga/anime has a certain flare, but the “heroification” of Mori in this way felt really weird. Considering I read a lot of mountaineering books in my spare time and am aware of the risks and also how arrogance can swallow climbers up, I also just kept gritting my teeth any time he went free soloing despite all the warnings. The characters didn’t feel deep either, everyone was very surface and while I was given an explanation on why Mori wanted to be alone, I didn’t believe it. I wanted to feel it more.
