Wow, this book was an absolute rollercoaster ride! Though solidly written, it took a long time to get through all the drama and depth of characters. Any book over 600 pages, takes me longer than a day or two to read through. It took me all week, so I’m not sure I’ll be ready to move on to the next one any time soon. It consumed the bulk of my reading time, and I like juggling multiple books.
The compelling chapters were tightly written and kept me coming back to discover what else Hadrian, the main character, had gotten himself into. I like that I could identify with him and enjoyed the journey with his supporting characters. It’s a solid epic fantasy plot, but with six other books in the series, I’ll have to take it in smaller doses.
I give it 4 stars for its length, but 5 stars for the world-building, character development, and depth of plot.
