Wow, what a messy, chaotic, beautifully written book.

I didn’t read the blurb before diving in so I had no idea what was coming, and several parts of the book (decisions made) made me deeply uncomfortable while reading them - I am very nonconfrontational, so the messiness of the situation was putting me so on edge haha - I would have def ran in that position 😂😅

Besides the awkwardness of the situation, I did also feel like Alim’s 2 children (Lorraine esp) had very valid points and fears, and if felt kind of unfair to dismiss those so easily with how the ending wrapped up.

Besides those 2 points I absolutely adored this book -  the exploration of a messy character going through grief and pain and anger but still deciding to live and love (and that theme resonating with many of the side characters as well) was so beautiful and emotional to read. And despite the awkwardness of the romantic situation, it was still a beautiful love story full of warmth and connection. I think I might have shed a tear at some point.

Very real characters, overall loved it.
