The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo
3.0
I honestly think what killed this for me was the romance. I wanted more magic and for Luzia to go absolutely crazy with power, and instead got so many lines about how much she loved this man she'd known for maybe a few months. Also I am tired of the centuries old man falling for the very young woman he is teaching.
I did love the history and the world that Luzia lived in. It was a time period I'd never read about before. I feel like I learned a lot about Judaism in Spain, and I liked that Leigh included all of her reference texts at the end.
