The Back Room
by Helen Ryan
I read this on a rainy morning after waking up from an awful nightmare and it was just the melancholy escape I needed. It's real, and sad, (but not in a way that sends me into an empathy spiral) and I enjoyed the characters' messy humanness in their dialects and flaws.
