The optimism of both Marina and Cassidy is contagious, and it’s exactly how I felt reading their story. Just, never-ending optimism that things would work out for them. That positivity is reflected in almost everything they do, which was a fun change from how Jasper is in the first book of the series.

There was something soothing about just being along for the ride with Cassidy and Marina. Watching Cassidy go about his life and Marina try to figure out her next step was comfortable and nice to read. I never felt like something bad was going to happen, though I figured there would be a hang-up at some point.

Everything about Cassidy screams his love language being some combination of gifts and acts of service, and his little quirk of how he keeps track of everyone’s favorite things is great. It’s nice to see him gain confidence in how own abilities by the end and have something to call his own. On the other side of the coin, it’s great to see Marina realize you don’t have to be like your parents, even when that seems like the easy way out.
