I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston
5.0
John green was and forever will be one of my favorite authors, so to be able to spin his vibe into a queer story with a Paris Geller type of MC and have it feel fully original and absolutely perfect feels like no small feat.
I loved so much about this story, and while I may have had mixed feelings for Chloe, that was definitely because she reminded me of all of the flawed parts of myself. I had an incredibly soft spot for Smith, and I really loved the breakfast clubby vibes that our group of characters made up.
This is for anyone who wants to relive the John Green YA magic but make it queer, for anyone who likes a little mystery and competition to fuel an enemies to lovers storyline, for anyone who had internalized homophobia because of religious upbringings, for anyone who loves to see some queer theater kids living their best lives, for anyone who wishes their best friend’s parents owned a bookstore, for anyone who’s thrived on their well laid plans that has had to adjust to changes, and honestly so much more. Read this, you’ll find your reason for loving it.
