I picked up this book not expecting much. The 2nd book was a disappointment—-it failed to deliver on the worldbuilding and character arcs of the titans/Inans bloodline and its ending was not very memorable. But it’s been years since I’ve read the series so I went into this final book with a fresh slate.

I will say, the writing got better. And the plot has more umph. But it doesn’t compare to the 1st book. It’s a decent end to the trilogy and gives the characters what they all need but I think that spark that made me like the first book is gone.

Can we talk about how they did Zelie and Tzain dirty by building up their potential HEAs with Inan and Amari , only for Inan to have to die saving Zelie, and Amari to get with a female character she’s only known for 2 minutes? Granted, I never thought those pairings made sense and am actually glad Amari gets to be a sapphic lover girl but c’mon the throwaway romance subplots got to go.

And speaking of Amari, why is her character mentioned so little? She only gets like 5 POV chapters?! How is Tzain more of a main character than her???

Rant aside, I am surprised by how small this book was. It almost feels like with each book, the author had less and less to say , which is disappointing because the finale to a trilogy could be explored in so many ways. Personally I felt that we should’ve gotten more scenes with the maji and titans getting over their differences to fight Baldyr. It’s the same issue I had with Book 2 where I felt the plot was too rushed. Lots of action but little story. But the angle that Adeyemi chooses to take in this book its perfectly *fine*.

I’m interested to see how this plays out on the big screen. Fingers crossed
