Monstress, Vol. 3: Haven by Marjorie M. Liu
4.0
“What happened once will happen again…but in a different form. To become a future-teller one only needs to study history.”
Another riveting volume in this continually surprising series. Maika’s pursuers have located her on the refugee island of Pontus and she and her crew must work to protect its inhabitants.
This one was slightly less focused as Vol 3 and introduced some elements that felt a little less original than it has been in the past, but on the whole, it’s still complex, brilliant, and exciting. One quite emotional moment shows how much the relationships have developed in just three volumes.
