Super Happy Magic Forest by Matty Long

When I can enjoy a children's book as much as a child, I know I've found a winner. A group of friends (including a mushroom and a unicorn) go on a quest to recover their homeland's mystical crystals of life. There's danger, though most of the time our heroes seem oblivious to it. The end of their journey evokes a plot twist that continues their quest, but ends in a wonderful party.

Lots of humorous asides and comments are found in the many chat bubbles. Cutesy, appropriately colored characters and scenery add to the fun. My favorite part is when Trevor the Mushroom is asked if he's doing okay, since he's dangling over a cliff and Blossom the Unicorn is holding onto his lower half, and he replies: "I can't feel my legs!" Hehehe.

There's a ton to see here and point out, akin to the old "I Spy" titles. Younger kids might experience difficulty with the darker parts, but mostly it's all in good fun. Highly recommended!
