Just as brilliant as the last one. I found it uncomfortable a bit with how things went with Kazan, as I felt he got off easy (at least socially/in a legacy sense) in regards to his forced 'bargain' with Phedré, but overall it was a well told tale with great stakes and tension.

As with the previous book, the ending is interesting in that it goes on past the climax longer than you'd expect without doing an epilogue, and I'm left in a weird sort tension limbo. I don't think I'd like it if that was a more common way to write endings, but it works in these novels. I think I need a break before I read the next one.
