The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

5.0

“There’s no freedom quite like the freedom of being constantly underestimated.”

Locke Lamora is the leader of an elite band of con-artists and thieves - the Gentleman Bastards. To many her is merely a myth, a rumour; the Thorn of Camorr who steals from the rich and gives to he poor. But what Locke Lamora is able to con out of the rich of Camorr is strictly for the Gentleman Bastards.

Their playground is the city of Camorr, full of Dons, merchants, beggars, and the criminal mastermind who runs the city (gentleman bastards included). There’s rumours of a challenge to the Capa’s power, a man no one has ever seen and no one can touch - The Grey King. A wise man would avoid getting caught between Capa Barsavi and The Grey King at all costs. …Locke Lamora isn't known for being wise.

This was a phenomenal read! The complete and utter chaos, the never-ending foolery, and wickedly clever antics completely charmed me from the start. I’m so excited to see what happens in the next book!!

I feel like if you enjoyed Mistborn era 2, especially Wax and Wayne and their shenanigans, I think you’ll really enjoy this book! I’ve already got my Dad a copy so he can give it a try!

Locke and The Gentlemen Bastards are brilliant. Their banter was such a pleasure to read, their antics and schemes were deceptively clever. The plot was wonderful. There’s lots of layers to it which I quite liked, each subplot was well paced and it was great to see them interweave throughout the book.

“Someday, Locke Lamora,” he said, “someday, you’re going to fuck up so magnificently, so ambitiously, so overwhelmingly that the sky will light up and the moons will spin and the gods themselves will shit comets with glee. And I just hope I’m still around to see it.”

“Oh please,” said Locke. “It’ll never happen.”
