Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey

4.0

In the future, humans have expanded their reach in the solar system. Not only are there people living on Mars, but other planets, moons, and even asteroids. Miller is a detective on Ceres, an asteroid in the Belt. He's given a kidnap job, return an heiress to her family. Holden works on a ice freighter, carrying ice to the Belt to allow them to live. After checking out a distress signal, the ship his small shuttle was on gets blown up. Leviathan Wakes slowly intertwines these two men's lives to tell an intriguing, mildly terrifying, SciFi tale.

Holden and Miller guide the tale, Miller trying to figure out where Julie Mao is, determining her involvement in OPA, a group trying to protect the Belt from the inner planets. Holden trying to figure out who shot down his old ship.

Corey creates a very different kind of SciFi, with a blend of horror, actual science, mystery... His characters really draw you in, it was easy to go through the pages, and hard to put down. The evolving mystery... When one thing gets solved, it really opens the door to new questions. I found it easier to like Miller, even as unstable and messed up as he is, in comparison to Holden, who is righteous but impulsive.
