Spearhead: An American Tank Gunner, His Enemy, and a Collision of Lives in World War II by Adam Makos

5.0

My grandfather served in the 3rd Armored during World War 2 in a M5 Stuart and other than admiring its twin Cadillac engines and speaking about its weakness against German tanks, never talked about his time in the war at all. Spearhead provided a great sense of tanker life, especially how dangerous day to day life was in 1944 and 1945. The balance between three different soldiers including one German soldier also helped give depth and perspective. The book also chronicles the meeting of Clearance, Buck, and Gustav recently to provide some much needed closure for all three veterans.
