Better than the first, and it makes me nervous for where the last book is going. My heart was in my throat the last 50 or so pages, and I'm not sure if it's found its way back yet. There are similar pacing issues to the first book in terms of it feeling really slow at times, and I could personally do without any of the Bero parts, but it's definitely smoother than the first book.
