The Cold Dish: A Longmire Mystery
by Craig Johnson
This, as you can see from my shelves, is one of my favorite books of all time.
Walt Longmire is a sheriff for the county of Absaroka, Wyoming. He has been called to investigate the murder of someone who has appeared to have been "sniped" by a high caliber rifle.
That's the investigation of the book, and while it may seem elementary, it is much more than meets the eye. Mr. Johnson has created both a cast of characters and a world that is incredibly enjoyable to read. A book that is an incredible read with a case that will shock you when you arrive at the books end.
The writing style here is also one of my favorite things, it has such a casual style that it immerses you and makes you feel as though you are in the county itself, below those eloquently described mountains. Good crime and noir, in my opinion, needs to have a strong central character and needs to read as if every sentence is a book in itself. Mr. Johnson's novel has both, and a strong case to boot. If you like crime novels, look no further than the cold dish.
