This was a 4/5 star read for me for the majority of it. The writing was immersive: the description was interwoven with action in a way that kept the story moving whilst still building clear images of settings and the world around Ruby. I loved the setting/time-period, too. That being said, I wanted to read this because it was set in West Yorkshire (like me!) & it didn’t really describe anything uniquely Yorkshire other than the occasional accent and bit of politeness towards strangers.
It sort of lost its way a little bit in terms of plot; I predicted it to be more complex than it turned out to be.
