I cannot believe I waited this long to read this book. It was utter perfection and I cried through at least half of it. Alex is such a great main character, the way he sees the world and wants the best for everyone. And Henry, too good for us all. All the side characters were so wonderful, too. I’m never getting over this one.

“I want to believe in some people being good and doing this job because they want to do good. Doing the right things most of the time for the right reasons. I want to be the kind of person who believes that.”

“The worst thing is one of the first big things that ever happens to you in your life. It happens to you, and it does all the way down to the bottom of what you know how to feel, and it rips it open and carves out this chasm down below to make room. And because you were so you, and because it was one of the first big things to happen in your life, you’ll always carry it inside you. Every time something terrible happens to you from them on, it doesn’t just stop at the bottom—it goes all the way down.”
