I'm not much one for autobiographies, especially ones from those whom I'm not familiar with, but this is the best autobiography I've read. Such fun and crazy stories, made crazier by the realisation that they're real, and actually happened.
I was recommended this book by a family member who was so insistent I read it, he bought and sent me a copy. I read it to be polite really, since he went to the trouble, but man, I'm glad I did.
This book was one hell of a ride, from start to finish, diving into the insane life of Danny Sugarman, manager of the Doors.
I'm not too familiar with the Doors or many of their songs, to be honest, but this story wasn't what I expected it to be, a suck-up story on how great the Doors are and all the crazy shit THEY did, but more a hard-hitting, raw interpretation of a life lived on the utmost edge.
Danny Sugaran's tales of excess are so out there and bizarre, it will have you shaking your head as to how he lived so long.
This is a wonderful glimpse at a truly extreme lifestyle, written very well and very easy to read. Laugh out loud moments the whole way through with some great stand out lines that will stick with you years after you've read it.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves real life stories of the rock and roll underworld.
