A Soul to Heal
by Opal Reyne
dark
emotional
sad
This one is a little bit more slow than I was looking for. The writing has had some significant improvement from the first book, but the characters felt a little off to me. Just… something about having a character that is abjectly underdeveloped/beastial who eventually becomes more intellectually refined felt weird. And although I myself have really inconsistent depression, the main girl was a little hard for me to relate to, maybe because I don’t particularly like myself when I’m manic/going through emotional rollercoasters. But in the end their relationship felt a bit imbalanced and quickly wrapped up.
I love Fyodor. Cute. Great. Non-binary. Lovely little fella. May they return one day.
The main antagonist felt a little more balanced in motive this time, but like, wasn’t really in the book much. It’s really more of a man vs. self kind of book, but you know. If you have a demon king, I guess he has to be in there.
Overall a decent addition to the series. I am looking forward to the third installment, too, so clearly good enough to keep me engaged. Keep up the good work though!
