This is one of those books that, upon finishing, realized it may simply have not been for me. That being said, I would be foolish to deny how expertly Anne Rice crafts the narrative, environment, and themes of this story.

Rice absolutely nails themes of sensuality, darkness, and mystery throughout the novel. These three elements are foundational pillars of the (cliffside, moonlit) castle of any vampire story. This novel delivers exactly what it promises - an interview with a vampire - and manages to look upon the protagonist's many centuries with a sort of distant reflection that is perfectly believable for how an immortal would look back on the trials and tribulations of their own life.

All in all, I may not find myself reading the rest of Rice's vampiric anthology, but I am certainly happy that I read this one.
