Beautiful, heartbreaking, hopeful, inspired. This will be a book I’m sure to recommend repeatedly and I’m genuinely a little embarrassed its taken me so long to get to it when so many others have recommended it to me. As we follow the fates of two branches of the same family across time and space, we are left thinking about the impact of generational trauma and the violence of absence as well as the vibrant resiliency of both Black Americans and African peoples living with the intwined legacies of chattel slavery and colonialism. Just an incredible book.
