The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
Not an original thought: But this diary shouldn't be rated - only spoken about. Also, full disclosure, I have yet to finish the book but my Kindle App states that I'm around 70% done and I both plan to finish it slowly but surely and don't feel it's necessary to finish before writing what I'm thinking.
I was under the impression that this would be writings that really spoke about the Nazi occupation in a more direct way. I should've guessed better, because this truly reads like the diary of a regular teenage girl with a natural talent who was born during a heinous time full of hatred.
I feel so intrusive reading this. It's so personal (obviously). She speaks about things that I would have never wanted people to know at that age. It makes me feel like a voyeurs that's reading something marketed as entertainment when it shouldn't be. Most of this has nothing to really do with being a Jewish person during WWII, other than the overarching seclusion that causes their living situation. I don't want to know about Anne's crushes and inner monologue - not because "I don't care," it's boring, or a droll to get through. But because who the hell am I to access this kind of information?
Anything else that I have to say about the content is a moot point.
I wish Anne Frank could've lived long enough to write something for the direct purpose of being consumed by everyone. I have 0 doubt that her name would have been famous regardless of what book or story she would have written.
