i was much more invested in the characters than the storyline. i really enjoyed the style of writing but felt that the plot was underdeveloped and unfinished. also, i felt that the attempted criticism of anthropology and its intersection with colonialism could have been an interesting and meaningful discussion, but ultimately fell short for me. this book is hanging around 2.5⭐️ unfortunately, since i loved other lily king books so much
