A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

adventurous dark tense medium-paced

Ahhhhh so I finally read this. I have very mixed thoughts.

Biggest things I liked: lots going on, world building, true escapism from daily life, lots of side characters & stories, etc

Things I didn’t care for:
-I DONT LIKE THE LOVE INTEREST. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read it but there are 2 other people I “shipped” to be with the main character more then who she’s with & that really played into how much I enjoyed the book because of the plot line, especially towards the end.
-I felt like the end was very predictable & underwhelming & even a bit rushed? There is a whole series so I’m not quite sure why we had to rush to that finish.

••I thought this was smut??? I’ve seen this series all over BookTok & I thought it was spicy…this was definitely not that. I kept expecting scenes that literally never came.

••Some quotes I wrote down that I loved:

“It was like striding through a living painting — a fleeting moment of stillness, the blues swiftly shifting to solid darkness.”

“I wasn’t faerie, but I was a part of this earth, and the earth was a part of me, and I would be content to dance upon it for the rest of my life.”

Will I read book two? Yes. Am I running to the store to buy it right now? No.
