I love the premise of this series, and the tenth instalment doesn’t disappoint.
Nadya was abandoned by her birth mother and because she is born without a right arm she is overlooked when anyone visits the orphanage looking to adopt. Nadya doesn’t mind. She does her best to help the other orphans find their forever home, and is resigned to never finding a place of her own.
After some years she is adopted by an American couple. She tries her best to be what they want but she doesn’t feel at home. When they arrange for her to have a prosthetic arm fitted Nadia’s feelings of worthlessness increase.
One day she finds herself falling through a doorway into Bellyreka. Here she learns to swim with turtles and to farm the land. She grows up feeling as if she has found her home. Unfortunately, her luck doesn’t last and after a terrifying ordeal with the frog she encountered when she first arrived she finds herself plunged back into her world.
As always, the ending feels abrupt. I am always left wanting more, even though I’ve throughly enjoyed what I’ve read.
