Dark Soul Vol. 5 by Aleksandr Voinov

4.0

When in doubt, read Voinov.
I'd been eyeing these books for a long time, saving them for the moment when the hunger for bdsm would hit me. I read some reviews beforehand and I was aware I was going to be acquainted with some new ways of using a gun. I approached warily, but I knew they would be good.
They were. I fell in love with Silvio. I should have expected it - I have this crazy fixation on underdogs, after all. And it persisted, even though (...because?) he continued to act like a slut - although conversely, Dark Lady was one of the stories I liked best. The character development was done masterfully here. I loved that Silvio retained every bit of his intensity throughout the series, even as more details were filled in and the puzzle pieces began to form a whole.
I couldn't bring myself to like Stefano, though. I guess I tolerated him; he had his moments, but most of the time he was just too soft. I understand why he didn't stay and fight for the family (especially with Sebastiano cornering him - and for that matter, how sick was Sebastiano's reaction when he discovered the truth about Silvio? I hated that fucker). I would have killed those homophobic bastards myself. But he could have handled it better. Just upping and leaving was a shit thing to do. I don't know. Maybe it's just that he seemed too ordinary compared to Silvio.
I enjoyed these immensely. The writing, as usual, was incredible - Voinov has a way with words that few others possess. The sex was scorching, even the threesome, which I didn't expect, and intersected the story at just the right moments. Overall, it was a great read.
