A Kingsguard Tale: Road to Celestia by G.F. Allen

4.0

In a Kingsguard Tale we follow Dart on his mission to become a Kingsguard. From the first few chapters it had me thinking back on my quests and raids in Everquest 2, where you cannot succeed without your team and you need to rely on each of them and anticipate your next moves. And Dart is such a lovable person, who really has his heart on his sleeve. Through him we get to experience the need and wish to protect along with the realization of the loneliness this can bring, even with teammates by your side. But we also see his determination and drive, he doesn’t back down and pushes through even when things aren’t going the way they should.

I enjoyed reading this book, it is a mix of action, mystery, magic and full of amazing landscapes and dangerous enemies and it has an amazing plot. I liked the flashbacks of childhood memories, and the elaborate character building. There are lush landscapes, and everything is so well described it almost feels as if you are watching a movie. Or playing an online game, what with all the dangerous and bloodthirsthy creatures and unexplored regions.

I did find however that, just as with quests in MMORPGS, the book has alot of info, extremely elaborate and long fighting scenes and alot of detailed conversations and flashbacks. Sometimes it was a bit too much, but nevertheless I enjoyed this book, it took me back in time when I played MMORPGS with my late parents.
