I'm kind of happy we got to Bal & Anika's story after we were left hanging for quite a while after their first meeting. I always enjoy the BDB books and particularly the fun banter always speckled here and there. I must confess though, my favorite part of the book was Lassiter, and how we got hints to his own story (due to release in April 2023). Baltazar was never a big part of the brotherhood so while his story was enjoyable, it didn't feel THAT necessary, if that makes any sense? Lassiter though, THAT I want to read about!! I guess it's the reason why I'm giving it 3 stars. Enjoyable ride, but I wasn't on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen to the main couples, which feels kind of wrong.
IDK, the last few books I've read in the BDB universe didn't leave me quite as satisfied as the previous books used to. Maybe I've outgrown it? Or maybe it's dragging on to long? Either way, I'll be reading The Viper (which I already own, but haven't read yet) and Lassiter, and I guess I might have to take a decision about continuing to read the series or not. It's not bad, but it feels like it is stalling lately.
