“I felt deeply comforted knowing that magical things were still living in the world.”🌊🌲

Monkey Beach is much more reflective and subtle than the Son of a Trickster series—the supernatural elements are more subdued and the violence and humour in general are less over the top.

The descriptions of nature and of the preparation of different foods from nature are poetic, and also really interesting and educational to me. Lisamarie is a wonderful character and her relationships with her family are portrayed beautifully and with such depth. The supernatural elements are that perfectly strange mix of uncanny and comforting.
