The Embroidered Book by Kate Heartfield

5.0

What an adventure! I could not put this down. The author delivers a great story with excellent prose. I adored following Marie-Antoinette and Charlotte as they struggle with the demands of their positions, political machinations, and MAGIC!

Bullet review:
- Sibling dynamics
- Two female leads
- Complex politics
- Alternate history
- Cost of magic
- Ethical questions
- Losses and grief
- Historical fantasy

I absolutely loved this. I am a fan of alternate history, and while I am no expert, this one felt really grounded and seamlessly blended with the actual historical event. It was engaging from the beginning, but I also found myself being quite emotional a few times.
