Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James
3.0

OK folks. I know this has become a bit of a controversial book. I'll admit I liked it. Go ahead and take my head off, splay my innards out, have at me. Done? Good.

For crying out loud folks! Take it for what it is. A beach read. Trashy, guilty pleasure reading. Not having to think, mindless entertainment. It's not Dickens, Bronte, or Austen. It's also a LOT better quality than a lot of the other bodice rippers I've seen come across the circulation desk over the years at the library. That being said, yes the writing is of a high school level. So what? Sometimes, it's good to read things of different levels. I personally like reading Young Adult novels from time to time, though this is not one of those.

The whole erotic thing really didn't leave me "inspired" shall we say. I think my prudish friend (you know who you are) could read it without squirming too much. There are certain aspects I thought were highly unbelievable. A woman in her 20's who had never masturbated? Yeah right!

Really what drew me in was more of the cat and mouse game between Christian and Ana. I found that part to be the most interesting. The tit for tat and how the relationship unfolds, was what fascinated me.

It's a quick read and I found myself at the library the next day grabbing the second book.
