i really really really loved this omg!! but i can't express it properly so i'll sum it up super quickly~
1. the characters = omg i absolutely adore kiva!! like how can you not? i have never read a book with a heroine who is brave, strong, resilient, and smart, but is also so very kind, humble, generous and caring. that is unbelievable, truly. jaren. hmm... yeah (*insert squeaking sound*). jaren OKAY i cant take this he is adorable truly loved his character & personality (he's sooooo genuine and caring and omg his hugs????). i needn't say anything else. tipp, oh tipp, i loved tipp, super cute little kid (legit i loved him) and naari!! naari, gosh she is awesome, so so so cool. i'll say no more.
2. the setting + plot = it's crazy how the author managed to create such a wonderful story that takes place entirely in one location! (aka the prison) like that's absurd. the politics of the world and the magic system was really well explained. i'm really intrigued, honestly. i've seen many people complain about how the middle 200 pages were boring, but i personally really enjoyed that! basically it was kiva trying to figure out how this one illness was caused etc and people don't really enjoy that part, but i really did. super fun
3. the ending = how could we not talk about this? absolutely insane. so many things were insane. i'll try really hard not to spoil anything but let's see. i'll be very non-spoiler coded but if you read the book, you'll know what i'm talking about. jaren, oh gosh, jaren what???? () and um....jaren how do you have all those powers. i give up, honestly. but the biggest biggest biggest shock was legit right there on the last page. KIVA HOW WAS SHE YOUR MOTHER??? AND I'M SORRY BUT WHAT KIVA DID WITH TIPP??? HOW??????? (
