Coraline by Neil Gaiman
adventurous dark medium-paced

Coraline Jones's family moves from her hometown to the Pink Palace Apartments, where she feels bored, ignored, and alone. When exploring, she finds a hidden passage in the parlor here; she finds wondrous things, but not all is as it seems.

This read has dark, childish vibes you wouldn't usually find in a children's story. I'm a fan of the movie, so I was disappointed not to see some of the same characters. Still, I'm happily surprised to find I enjoyed both equally.

<Spoiler> I found it so chilling that the Other Mother needed permission to sew buttons into her eyes.

Coraline is a children's book, but I recommend it to everyone.
