This is one of the most amazing books I have read. After years of cynicism about this generation of fantasy, and it's meh books that are pushed out for volume over quality, Brandon gives me hope that there are still authors who respect the craft. The worldbuilding is amazing, the magic system clear and complex, the characters realistic, and the story engaging.
In the beginning, I found myself frustrated with chapters about the princess but Raoden had my heart from the first chapter. Thank you for this masterclass in writing. Hard to believe this was a debut novel and, from what I have read of Brandon's other works, he only goes up from here.
