I read this book for a book challenge. The prompt was "self-insert by author." I wasn't familiar with Anthony Horowitz prior. He truly inserted himself into the story as the main character. His counterpart is a brilliant but difficult detective. In the story, Anthony is an author, following a murder investigation to write a book. The book is cleverly written, with multiple suspects. I enjoyed the relationship between Horowitz and Hawthorne. I will probably  read the sequel at some point.
