i will say i went into this book with some expectations. i expected the pace to be a bit more quick and brutal, and so i let myself down with that. but once i got past my “i want blood and gore” i found myself able to really, really enjoy the book. 

the set up and character building does get a bit slow for me at times but i understand where harper was going with it and her intentions. she wanted us to fall in love with who kieran and akren are, and slowly, as they fell slowly for each other. 

throughly enjoyed this read and am pretty damn excited to read the second book in the harbinger serieds.
