Faceless Killers by Henning Mankell

3.0

Not sure how I feel about this one. It's a page turner, that's for sure. It's partly the translation - Swedish is quite a sparse language when compared to English, and dialogue in particular can feel a little strange. But the mystery was a decent one, and poor old Wallander is an epicly rubbish hero, putting the pieces together while his life falls apart. There's plenty of the usual cop/mystery cliches here, and if you've read the Stieg Larsson trilogy (which Mankell predates) the themes are familiar. But it's also a little tongue in cheek. I loved Wallander's thought about fictional detectives always being divorced, for example. His sexism is hilariously awful.

So yup. Got through it very fast, was absolutely entertained. But not a game changer, by any means.
