The Midnight Palace by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

3.0

It's not the greatest in terms of its writing, and there were some plot elements that I wish had been a little clearer. The characters could also have been developed better. The strength in this book comes from the story itself and the telling of it. It's best to try to look at it as a tale being told. I thought I was reading just another fantasy novel, but I was surprised to find it was nothing like that at all. It almost turned into a horror at one point. It's a fairly fast read and very interesting. There were some beautiful descriptive phrases that could melt your heart and some interesting philosophical standpoints that appeared that added more depth to the story. By the end of it, despite my critique, I was glad I had read it.
